Inflated power bills: FIA gives Rs39bn relief to consumers

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore says it has given a relief of Rs39 billion to the people this year in a campaign against over-billing in electricity.

The FIA anti-corruption wing said in a statement on Saturday that during the last eight months the agency in a crackdown against over-billing recovered Rs39bn (from Lesco) and provided a relief of the same to the consumers.

It further said it also arrested a project director, three Xens and a commercial assistant for causing a loss of Rs820m to the national exchequer.

The FIA said this year it retrieved Auqaf’s land worth Rs8bn from land grabbers and also recovered Rs30m from tenants of the Auqaf land.

It also sealed three medicine factories and a medical store and seized spurious drugs. The FIA said it arrested 12 suspects including doctors in illegal organ transplant trade. The FIA wing also arrested 177 proclaimed offenders.
