Woman murdered by husband in Landhi
KARACHI: A 24-year-old woman, mother of two children, was killed allegedly by her husband in Landhi on Monday.
The Quaidabad police said “tortured” body of Fatima was recovered from her home in Sherpao Colony near Aqsa Masjid.
The corpse was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
Area SHO Ghulam Husain Pirzada quoting the doctors said that she was strangled to death.
He said the police had detained her husband, Noman, on complaint of the victim’s sister.
The officer said Noman claimed that his wife had committed suicide. However, circumstantial evidence suggested that it was a not a case of suicide, he added.
SHO Pirzada said the couple married in 2017 and had two children. Three months ago, a quarrel erupted between them and in a fit of anger, Noman verbally divorced Fatima two times. He then approached a local religious scholar who said their divorce would be considered complete if they did not reunite within three months.
The officer said that the three-month period ended on Sunday when the husband told victim Fatima that their divorce had fully taken place as they did not reunite during that period.
During an initial probe, it transpired that Fatima had demanded her Haq Mehr and other valuables from Noman. That led to an exchange of hot words, resulting in her killing.
