Polio worker says she was robbed and not assaulted

SUKKUR: A female polio worker, who was said to be abducted by two armed men and subjected to sexual assault in Allah Bakhsh Rakhrani village in Jacobabad district on Wednesday, clarified before media persons that she had not been sexually assaulted but robbed of her phone and valuable belongings.

She said that when she was returning after administering drops to children in the last home on her list, a man robbed her of her mobile phone and money at gunpoint and escaped.

“I was so traumatized and my heart was beating so fast that my team leader immediately took me to Jacobabad Institute of Medical Science,” she said.

She dismissed the reports about sexual assault as rumours and repeated that she was only robbed.

SSP Dr Sumair Noor Chana said in a press statement that police had arrested the two suspects and started investigation.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the reports of sexual assault on the polio worker and directed commissioner and DIG of Larkana to submit to him a report on the incident and provide security to the affected polio worker.
