KWSC inks pact for construction of New Hub Canal

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) inked an agreement with the Engineering Procurement Construction on Thursday for the construction of the New Hub Canal project.

The pact was signed at the KWSC MD Secretariat in Karsaz, attended by water utility chief Syed Salahuddin, Wah Construction Limited Director Shoaib Shafiq, Colonel Sabahuddin Chaudhry, Sultan Dogar of 3G Consultant, Hub Canal Project Director Sikandar Ali and Chief Engineer E&M Sewerage Syed Sardar Shah.

According to a KWSC spokesperson, the project includes the construction of a new Hub canal and restoration of the existing one. Additionally, the Hub Pumping Station, rising main, and the Hub Filter Plant would be upgraded from their current capacity of 80 million gallons per day (MGD) to 100 MGD.

The project, with a fixed cost of Rs12.76 billion, is expected to be completed within a year. Once finished, it would significantly improve water supply to Karachi, particularly in the West district and Keamari.
