Ex-policeman among three torture polio team
BAHAWALPUR: Three people, including a retired police official, allegedly attacked a polio team and held them hostage at their house in Ahmedpur East on Thursday.
According to police spokesman, a four-member team, including three lady health visitors Farheena Shaheen, Shazia, Ruqia Bibi and Hasnain, was performing duty to administer polio drops to children in mohallah Fatani. When they reached the house of former police official Muhammad Kamran, he along with other accomplices identified as Muhammad Arsalan and Farah not only refused to administer polio drops to his family’s children but also threatened them with dire consequences and used abusive language against the women workers.
The family also held them hostage and tortured them inside their house and on victims’ emergency call, police rushed to the scene and rescued them.
The spokesman claimed to have arrested Kamran while raids were being conducted for the arrest of two of his accomplices.
On the complaint of victim Farheena, Ahmedpur East police registered an FIR under sections 342, 354, 186 and 506 of PPC.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the local administration to take strict action against the attackers.
KIDNAP: A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped from a village falling in the limits of Mitroo police station in Mailsi tehsil of Vehari on Thursday.
Tahir Hussain of village 169/WB complained to the Mitroo police that her daughter Alisha (12) was allegedly abducted by suspect Ismail of the same locality.
