Delayed justice

THE Gujjar Nullah affectees are in distress over the ongoing delay in the resolution of their cases. Despite the fact that Sindh cabinet has approved of Rs1.48 million for the construction of houses for the affectees of Gujjar Nullah, Mehmoodabad and Orangi Nullah, the people have remained deprived of the promised com-pensation and alternative plots of land.

The government had said in a statement that the approved amount had been deposited with the relevant court, but there has been no hearing of the cases since April, leaving the people in a state of uncertainty and despair. The prolonged delay has caused immense hardship and suffering to the families.

In fact, in the last hearing, the court had ordered that those left out of the previous list of affectees should also be included in the compensation plan. However, the names of such individuals have still been not included by the govern- ment. The affected people are still waiting for the court to expedite the process.
