WATER SHORTAGE

WATER SHORTAGE: The shortage of drinking water in Hyderabad, particularly in Qasimabad area, is a persistent issue. Water filtration plants are generally not maintained properly. Kotri Barrage has enough water that flows to various parts of the city via the Phuleli and Pinyari canals, but the pipelines in Hyderabad are consistently dry. In some cases, entire neighbourhoods have to spend days without access to clean drinking water.

COLLEGE CLOSURE: The University College of Dera Murad Jamali (UCDMJ), a campus of the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences, is about to shut down due to lack of permanent teachers and other facilities. The budget allocated last year has been utilised, and no new funds have been announced so far. Since the faculty members have not received their salaries for two months, they are already frustrated, and may not continue their service. The government must take concrete steps to resolve this pressing issue.

JUNK FOOD: The menace of junk food continues to affect the health of people, but there seems to be no end in sight. All such food is processed, and requires huge amounts of synthetic chemicals that are not only toxic, but also contain numerous carcinogenic materials. They are a major source of non-communicable diseases, like heart problems, diabetes, stroke and others. Obesity, a silent killer, has a direct linkage with junk food. Unhealthy food is destroying the health of the nation.
