EPA Punjab launches smog, air pollution campaign

RAWALPINDI: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab on Monday launched its campaign against smog and air pollution with a tree-planting event at Allama Iqbal Park.

Parliamentary Secretary for Environment Kanwal Liaqat initiated the awareness event by planting a tree alongside children from the ISF Orphanage. She also participated in an anti-dengue awareness walk, joined by representatives from Murree Brewery.

As part of the campaign, EPA Punjab will organise seminars and workshops in various educational institutions to educate students about pollution and the importance of tree planting in combating smog.

Speaking on the occasion, Kanwal Liaqat highlighted the measures being taken to address the forthcoming smog season in the province.

She encouraged the public to proactively address the dengue outbreak. Additionally, she led an anti-plastic drive in Commercial Bazaar and Food Street, Rawalpindi. During this drive, plastic bags below 75 microns were confiscated with the assistance of EPA staff.

Furthermore, as preparation for the upcoming smog season, industrial inspections are being conducted to ensure compliance with the government.
