Lawyer’s licence revoked for ‘locking in’ judge

QUETTA: Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar has revoked the licence of advocate Farzana Khilji for her and some other lawyers’ alleged involvement in locking the chamber of a civil judge at the district and sessions court in Sariab.

According to a notification issued by the high court’s registrar, Muhammad Dawood Khan Nasar, the chief justice took the action based on a report from Sariab’s district and sessions judge concerning the incident.

Following the chief justice’s order, Ms Khilji’s licence to practise law has been cancelled and the case has been referred to the Balochistan Bar Council for further legal proceedings.

In a separate development on Saturday, Chief Justice Kakar appointed 26 judicial magistrates-cum-civil judges (BPS-18) to the province’s district judiciary on the recommendation of the Balochistan Judicial Selection Board.

According to the notification issued by the registrar, the appointees include three women judges — Javeria Ahmed, Mahjabeen Rehman and Maria Manzoor.
