FIA nabs man for evading tax on sugar sale

GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency has booked and arrested a man in connection with a sugar scam of millions of rupees as the suspect would use to purchase sugar through illegal means to evade tax.

Suspect Khursheed Anwar has been booked by the Gujrat FIA circle and later arrested.

According to the case lodged with the FIA, the suspect had purchased the sugar bags in the name of an overseas Pakistani Muhammad Naeem of Sara-i-Alamgir who is settled in Italy and evaded the tax payment worth Rs6.2 million.

Another Muhammad Umar of Sara-i-Alamgir had lodged a formal complaint against the suspect for using the names of others to register the company as a tax evasion. Official sources said that the suspect would often use the names of others to register the company and then purchase the sugar.

Meanwhile, the FIA claimed to have arrested three human traffickers wanted in around 20 different cases lodged against them.

Gujranwala FIA zonal director Andul Qadir Qamar told Dawn that Muhammad Aslam Meo and Nadeem Aslam Meo of Daska Sialkot, had been wanted to FIA Gujranwala circle in at least nine cases lodged against them for committing fraud to the people for sending them to Libya and Italy in 2023.

However, they had fled and now the FIA anti-human trafficking cell traced and arrested both the suspects.

He said both the traffickers had received a sum of Rs44 million from at least 18 clients to send them to Italy and other European countries which they failed to do.

Meanwhile, another human trafficker Mahad Ali has also been arrested for committing the fraud of Rs4m to a citizen for arranging a work visa of United kingdom for him which he failed to do.

FIA Gujranwala have booked the suspect and started investigation into the cases.

SHOT DEAD: Two people were shot dead and another sustained bullet wounds in firing by their rival group in Dinga Khurd village of Dinga police precincts on Tuesday.

Reports said three men were going towards Dinga town from Randheer village on a motorbike when armed men belonging to the rival party had ambushed them near Dinga Khurd. Resultantly Haji Fazal Hussain (65) and Ifzaal Gujjar (42) were shot dead and Haneef (20) got injured.

The assailants fled the scene and police reached the spot and shifted the bodies and the injured to Kharian Tehsil Headquarter hospital. A team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency also reached the spot and collected evidence. Police said the old rivalry was the motive behind the incident as per the initial investigation. Police are yet to register a case.
