Protest against police failure to recover missing boy

KASUR: Scores of residents in Kot Murad Khan staged a protest on Friday against the failure of the B-Division police to recover a boy who has been missing for the past 25 days.

They blocked Ferozepur Road near the bypass by parking bikes and rickshaws, burning tyres and chanting anti-police slogans.

Family members of 12-year-old Irfan said he left home 25 days ago to go to his workplace but never arrived. They claimed to have identified a suspect using CCTV footage, stating that police had arrested the suspect.

They alleged the footage showed Irfan with the suspect for hours, during which he was taken to several eateries.

While police confirmed that they had arrested a suspect and were interrogating him, the family expressed frustration that no progress had been made in the case despite the time that has passed.

The protesters dispersed after receiving assurances from DSP Saifullah that justice would be served.

INJURED: A rickshaw driver was injured during a shooting incident involving two groups of students over the pestering of a girl on Friday at Khara Chungi in the A-Division police station limits.

According to eyewitnesses, some students pestered a female classmate, prompting her brother to alert his friends for assistance.

The situation escalated at Khara Chungi Mor, a busy area known for its numerous schools, as the two groups confronted each other. As a result of the exchange of fire, rickshaw driver Aslam sustained injuries and was rushed to the DHQ Hospital.

Police are investigating the matter.

Earlier on Wednesday, four students had teased college girls travelling in a rickshaw. When the rickshaw driver intervened, the students assaulted him and fled, leaving him injured.

However, police later arrested four suspects and registered a case against them.
