A flurry of activity at UAF’s Kisan Mela

TOBA TEK SINGH: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) remained a centre for attraction for the people and farming community on the third day of ongoing Kisan Mela.

On Thursday, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan inaugurated the fancy bird show, tent pegging competitions, nutrition festival and art and literature festival.

Convener Kisan Mela Dr Riaz Virk, Dr Qamar Bilal, Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Dr Imran Pasha, Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif, Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Fawad Ahmad, Dr Urfa Bin Tahir and Dr Rana Amer along with a large number of teachers and students attended.

Dr Iqrar said the Kisan Mela has been a tradition of the university in which farmers, policymakers, agricultural scientists, industry and people from other sectors are provided a platform to play their role for food security and profitable agriculture.

He said: “We have to harmonise our life with nature so that not only our ecosystem can improve but also control all health problems.”

He said more than a thousand of horse riders are participating in the event. He said arts and crafts create a space for happiness and in the art and literature festival students are provided an environment to sharpen their talents as well as improve their art. Hundreds of species of birds have been decorated in the fancy bird show, which attracted the visitors.

In the nutrition festival, the students established various food stalls.

MURDER: A man killed his former father-in-law in an attack in Jaranwala (Faisalabad) outside office of assistant commissioner on Kutchery Road on Thursday.

Reports said suspect Zaryab Ali Bukhari’s wife Hania Bukhari had got divorce through court due to dispute with him. To take revenge, Zaryab attacked Hania’s father Kaleem Bukhari when he was coming out of tehsil courts complex after attending a hearing on Kutchery Road as a result he was critically injured and died instantly.

Also at Chak 114 GB, some suspects shot injured their two opponents when they were on way to Jaranwala to appear before a court. They were identified as Shakil Ahmad (30) and Awais Talib (25). They have been shifted to Jaranwala THQ hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman died by suicide in her house located on Satiana Road at Faisalabad.

Saddar police said Asma Bibi (30) quarreled with her husband Muhammad Yousaf over some domestic issue and she hanged herself from a ceiling fan.
