Two killed as firing erupts at Swabi wedding ceremony

SWABI: Two people were killed and as many injured when firing erupted at a dance party in Chota Lahor tehsil of Swabi district on Friday night.

The dance party was organised at a hujra during a wedding ceremony in Jangidher village.

SHO Chota Lahor city police station Munsif told Dawn that during the dance party some participants fell out over a dispute on the dancers, which led to firing. As a result, two people were killed on the spot and two others were injured.

He said the deceased were identified as Tufail Nasar, 28, and Basit Khan, while the injured included Qabil Rehman, 29, and Saboor Bacha, 26. The bodies and the injured were taken to Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital, Shahmansoor.

Tariq Khan, brother of the deceased Tufail, got registered an FIR against Sadam Khan in the Chota Lahor city police station, alleging that he opened fire on his brother and others.

Meanwhile, a man, who had shot at and injured a policeman, was killed during an alleged encounter here on Saturday, the police claimed.

Swabi city police station SHO Altaf Khan said that a patrolling party came under attack when they challenged an ice-drug dealer, Ashfaq Khan alias Ashfaqy. As a result, he said a constable, Murad Khan was injured.

He said that the police launched a search for the accused and killed him during an encounter. He added the deceased was wanted to the Swabi city police station.

Meanwhile, the police recovered the body of an unidentified young woman in Haryan village of Chota Lahor tehsil.
