Suspected robber killed in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Gulshan-i-Maymar, police said on Saturday.

According to the SSP-West, three suspects were looting a citizen, Abdul Waheed, near Karim Shah Mazar late on Friday night when a police patrol arrived at the scene and challenged the suspects.

In an ensuing exchange of gunfire between the two sides, one suspect was killed and two managed to flee, he added.

The police claimed to have recovered an unlicensed pistol, snatched cell phone and cash from the possession of the deceased suspect.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The suspect was identified as Amjad Khan. He was a ‘habitual criminal’ as there were five FIRs registered against him at different police stations, the officer said.

Two suspects who killed citizen held

Two suspected robbers who shot dead a factory worker the other day were arrested in wounded condition after an ‘encounter’ in Surjani Town on Saturday.

West-SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said the encounter took place on Rozi Road. After an exchange of firing, two suspects namely Salman alias Tea and Rehan Farooq were apprehended in wounded condition, said

He added that the wounded suspects had shot dead a citizen, Faisal Shabbir, in Taiser Town on October 3, 2024 at night over resistance. The victim’s snatched cell phone had also been recovered from their custody. The bike recovered from their custody was also snatched from Khawaja Ajmer Nagri recently.

They were habitual criminals and were arrested in the past and sent to prison as well, added the SSP.
