From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1974: Fifty Years Ago: Unlawful move

RAWALPINDI: The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, today [Oct 5] strongly criticised the decisions taken at the recent convention of the UDF and said the Opposition leaders were violating … the Constitution knowing that their activities bordered on actual subversion of the Constitution. Criticising the NAP chief, Khan Abdul Wali Khan, Mr Pirzada said the Government will take “a very serious view” of the Opposition’s decision to address letters to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Services, foreign envoys in Pakistan, Islamic Secretariat and various UN agencies.

Addressing a Press conference … Mr Pirzada emphasised that a solution of the Baluchistan problem was very near and alleged that it did not suit the NAP chief … who encouraged subversion on instructions from … Afghanistan. … The Government had ignored these things in the past because of its … efforts to establish democracy which has helped the country to stage a quick recovery from the 1971 crisis. But … to subvert the loyalty of any agency subordinate to the Federal Government amounted to subversion of the Constitution. … Further, he was sure that the NAP chief was quite conscious of this position.
