Move to restructure research institute at JPMC
KARACHI: The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) will restructure the Basic Medical Sciences Institute (BMSI) of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) under a recently signed agreement between the two institutions.
The collaboration aims to restructure BMSI – an institute established at JPMC as its research and postgraduate education arm, focused on advancing knowledge in basic medical sciences – and develop it into a school of postgraduate studies offering programmes in basic, clinical, and allied health sciences.
Under the 25-year agreement, JSMU will assume administrative and academic control of BMSI. The university will oversee all functions of BMSI, including faculty and staff hiring, managing new admissions, and providing histopathology and microbiology lab services in line with the academic and research needs of the institute.
“By integrating BMSI into JSMU’s academic framework, we will be able to offer comprehensive postgraduate programmes to the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Executive Director JPMC, Prof. Shahid Rasool, at the signing ceremony of the MoU.
In his remarks, JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon said: “This collaboration will strengthen the educational and research landscape in the region by offering postgraduate programmes to develop healthcare professionals and advance medical research.”
