Collapse of Kutcha Qila wall leaves woman dead
HYDERABAD: Five women, along with a six-month-old baby, were injured when a portion of the Kutcha Qila wall inside the Makki Shah shrine collapsed on Thursday.
The eldest of the injured women, Jamila Ramzan, 42, was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Liaquat University Hospital.
The other victims brought to the hospital were identified as Ms Sahar, 30, Ms Sonia, 25, Ms Iqra, 20, and Ms Tooba, 18; and the infant as Shifa. Their condition was stated to be stable.
According to Hyder-abad Deputy Commi-ssioner Zainul Abiden Memon, devotees visit the shrine every Thursday and burn earthen lamps in holes of the wall as per their faith. He said a piece of the wall collapsed in that portion injuring the women and infant who happened to be there. The DC said one woman died while four other women, along with the infant, were injured in the incident, which caused a stampede.
Rescue 1122 staff rushed to the spot and undertook relief and rescue work. They transported the victims to the LUH for treatment.
