Huge fire erupts in Sindhi Muslim Society restaurant
KARACHI: A huge fire erupted in a restaurant on Sharea Faisal in Sindhi Muslim Society on Thursday, which was controlled after hectic efforts, according to police and rescue services officials.
But the blaze caused no injury to human life, they added.
Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that the fire erupted in the restaurant at around 12 noon, but they received information at around 1:4pm. The fire had erupted on the first floor due to a short circuit and soon engulfed the three-story building of the eatery. Mr Khan opined that the blaze spread rapidly because inflammable material was used in the air condition duct and the whole structure of the eating facility was made of wood.
He said eight fire tenders controlled the blaze after hectic efforts. One employee of the restaurant received minor burn injuries who was provided treatment.
Man shot dead near Ali Town
A man was gunned down on Thursday in Scheme-33 off Superhighway.
Sachal police said Jaffer Sarwar, 42, was killed near Ali Town. They attributed some personal enmity to the incident.
The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Child feared drowned in Sohrab Goth drain
Police and rescue services officials feared that one more child drowned on Thursday evening in Sohrab Goth drain.
They added that Aziz Raza, 11, was seen near the drain in Lasi Goth.
A Rescue-1122 official said their divers had launched an operation, but could not trace the boy till late at night.
