Wonder Craft: Crafting love for grandparents
Grandparents hold a special place in our hearts. Their love has no match. Their stories are full of wisdom, and their presence brings comfort to our lives.
With Grandparents’ Day tomorrow, I wanted to do something unique to show them just how much they mean to me. So, I decided to express my love through something handmade — a card that’s as heartfelt as the love they’ve always showered on me.
Supplies you need:
- A cardboard (roughly 8inches long and 5inches wide)
- A ruler
- Pencil
- Three coloured paper pieces to make tulips
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Hot glue or white glue
Directions:
As I mentioned, the cardboard should be at least 8 inches long and 5 inches wide to make the ideal flower pot size; picture 2.
Two-fold and cut it out in flower pot shape then secure the ‘sides only’ with either the white glue or the hot glue, pictures 3 and 4.
Cut a piece of paper in the shape of a pot, with the top part shaped like a dome, and match the size of the flower pot; picture 5.
To make the flowers, take pieces of coloured paper, each 1.5 inches wide on all sides, a square, picture 6.
Fold it in half, then fold it again into quarters, and finally fold the quarter into a triangle; pictures 7 and 8.
Hold the triangle upright and draw a half-heart shape along the folded edge, picture 9.
Cut the heart shape out, you will have four hearts, picture 10.
Unfold one heart and place it upside down and, while still folded, paste two more hearts — also upside down — on each side of the first heart, picture 11.
Make two or three more tulips in this way, choose colours of your choice, picture 12.
You can also use real flowers and leaves if they’re easy to find. What I did was paste real leaves and then add tulip cutouts on top; pictures 13 and 14.
Cut a larger heart according to the size of the pot, paste it below the flowers, and write your message on it.
Finally, paste some nice coloured paper on the front side of the pot, and insert the paper you just made with your message and flowers inside the pot.
If you haven’t prepared anything yet, why not make this card? I bet you can bring smiles to your grandparents’ faces by presenting this flower pot with your heartfelt message.
