Windstorm, rain hit parts of Karachi for second day

KARACHI: Parts of the city were hit by a brief spell of windstorm followed by light to moderate rain on the second consecutive day on Friday under the influence of a low pressure area formed over southeast Arabian Sea.

The Met department recorded 11mm rain in the old airport area, 7.5mm at the PAF Faisal Base, 1.6mm at the Met Complex (University Road), 1mm in Orangi Town and 0.2mm at Jinnah Terminal.

The maximum temperature recorded was 39 degrees Celsius with 59 per cent relative humidity.

According to the Met department, the low pressure area is formed at about 1,000km southeast of Karachi.

“Due to favourable environmental conditions, the system is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next two to three days and move initially towards northwest.

Currently, none of the Pakistan coastal area is likely to be impacted by this weather system. The department’s cyclone warning centre in Karachi is monitoring the situation,“ an advisory released by the Met department said.

The department stated that the prevailing hot to very hot and dry weather conditions are likely to continue in Karachi during the next two to three days.

The day-time maximum temperature is likely to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius.
