Breast cancer awareness walk held

KARACHI: To raise awareness of breast cancer, people from various walks of life participated in activities held around Nishan-i-Pakistan, Seaview on Sunday, including a 20k ride, a 10k run, and a 5k walk.

The event was organised by Sports in Pakistan in collaboration with the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) as part of the global PINKtober movement, promoting breast cancer awareness and support. This partnership aimed to educate communities about early detection, screening, and treatment options, ultimately helping to save lives, said a press release issued on Sunday.

“Early detection and screening are crucial in the fight against breast cancer. We aim to educate and empower communities through this event and our ongoing initiatives. JPMC is proud to partner with Sports in Pakistan for PINKtober,” said Prof Shaista Shoukat, head of the Radiology Department at the health facility.

PPP leader Sharmila Farooqui was the chief guest. She said: “It is a matter of pride and joy for me to be part of the PINKtober event, a powerful movement that unites us in the fight against breast cancer. Today, we stand together to promote awareness, support survivors, and inspire hope. I commend private organisations for their tireless efforts in making a difference. Let us continue to empower women and communities through education, early detection, and unwavering solidarity.”
