SWABI: The provincial president of lady health workers’ association on Sunday demanded upgradation of LHWs.

Addressing a news conference at the Swabi Press Club here, Rifasat Qamar and LHWs should not be forced to perform duties outside of their job description. She said about 60,000 LHWs confronted various problems, but health officials or politicians were not ready to resolve their issues.

Flanked by other members of the association, she alleged that if LHWs refused to perform extra duty they were threatened with dismissal from service and even their salaries were stopped.

Answering a question, she said LHWs still worked in BPS-5, and despite their various protests and repeated demands their grade was not upgraded.

Ms Qamar said about 700 LHWs worked in Swabi, but due to their continued negligence frustration prevailed among them.

SHOT DEAD: Two brothers hailing from Peshawar were killed on the Swabi-Jehangira Road in Shahmansoor area here on Sunday, Rescue 1222 and police officials said.

They said the brothers, identified as Salman Khan and Kamran Khan, were travelling in a car from Swabi to Peshawar.

Zaida police station SHO Raz Mohammad told Dawn that the two were shot dead from a very close range. He said it was not yet clear if someone was travelling with them in the car.

Luqman Khan, an official, accompanying a rescue team, which collected the bodies from the site, said that both were shot in the head.

He said the bodies were shifted to Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old widow was killed over family dispute in Batakara village of Topi on Sunday, the police said.

A woman, wife of Arif of Batakara village, reported to the police said that she along with her mother was going to her sister’s house in Topi city after visiting a relative in Batakara, when three persons she identified as Khanzada, Akhrar and Saeedzada, started firing on them near a mosque.

As a result of the firing, she said her mother died on the spot, while she survived.

The Topi police registered an FIR and started further investigation.

INTERNET SERVICE: Consumers complained on Sunday that Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) failed to restore the Internet service, which got disrupted on Saturday.

Mohammad Adil Yousafzai of Zaida city said that the authorities concerned were reluctant to give any clear reason why the Internet service had gone out of order.

When contacted, an official told Dawn that efforts were underway to restore the service as soon as possible.
