SCO summit
PAKISTAN, as a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), is hosting its first summit in Islamabad. This marks a significant milestone since Pakistan’s inclusion in the SCO, as it is the first time Islamabad has invited the heads of government for discussions that will focus on regional integration.
Pakistan’s strategic location at the intersection of South Asia and Middle East presents significant trade opportunities. Pakistan would be playing a crucial role in promoting trade and commerce, and in addressing terrorism in the region. SCO is a platform that has the potential to create job opportunities for Pakistanis in the region, particularly in the development and maritime sectors, further enhancing the country’s economic prospects.
The summit, which is starting today, is a golden opportunity for Pakistan as it paves the way for infrastructural development and economic prosperity by establishing connections between South Asia and the landlocked Central Asian countries. Pakistan’s role in SCO is likely to become more significant amid ongoing geopolitical changes. Pakistan may engage member states to drive terrorism out of the region and to make South Asia a terror-free zone.
