Six live rockets found in two houses defused

NAROWAL: Civil Defence Bomb Disposal Squad on Tuesday defused six live rockets found in two houses.

The Bomb Disposal Squad received information that there are four rockets in the house of Iftikhar Ahmad, a resident of Mirjal village, Zafarwal tehsil. After receiving information, the squad reached the spot and defused all four rockets.

The second phone call to the squad came from Waheed of Rupo Chak. The caller said that there are two rockets in the house. The squad reached the spot and destroyed both the rockets and took them into custody.

Narowal Civil Defence District Officer Asim Riaz Wahla told Dawn that the rockets found in both the incidents were live. He said the weight of a rocket is seven kilograms.

He said the rockets were found by the farmers while working in the fields. He said the farmers had not informed the civil defence department about the rockets. Farmers had picked up rockets and took them to home. He said when someone indicated, they informed the squad.

Wahla said had the rockets exploded, there could have been heavy loss of life and property. He said the citizens should immediately inform the local police or bomb disposal squad about the explosive materials found in rainwater channels and fields.
