FIA directed to act on actress’ plea

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday disposed of a petition by TV actress Nazish Jahangir with a direction to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to decide her application for stopping propaganda against her on social media.

Justice Anwarul Haq Pannun heard the petition of the actress challenging the propaganda against her.

Advocate Rida Noor appeared on behalf of the petitioner and argued that propaganda on social media had been damaging the reputation and the image of her client. She pointed out that the issue of negative propaganda on social media had become a serious problem as it caused significant harm to people’s honour.

She asked the court to order the removal of false content against Nazish Jahangir from social media and restrain her fellow actor Aswad Haroon from engaging in such activities.

The counsel said the FIA failed to take action on the matter.

Justice Pannun forwarded the petition to the FIA with a direction to decide the same in accordance with law.

Actor Haroon got the case registered against Ms Jahangir with Defense-C Police Station in July under Section 420 of the PPC. He alleged that Ms Jahangir had borrowed a car and Rs2.5m from him for a project promising to return them within two months but she failed to do so even after six months.

He said the actress, her accomplice, Sikandar Khan, and three unidentified armed men hurled him life threats when he was invited to a farmhouse to take his belongings back.
