Homeopaths oppose proposed amendments to drug law

SWAT: Homeopathic medical practitioners here on Tuesday rejected the government’s plan to amend Drug Act, 1965, and announced to challenge it in Supreme Court.

They announced their intention during a crowded press conference at Swat Press Club. Representatives of homeopathic doctors including Dr Mohammad Alam, Dr Shah Ziaur Rehman, Dr Mohammad Shabbir, Dr Arshad Hussain, Dr Haider Ali and Dr Zahid Ali addressed the press conference.

They said that millions of people around the world were benefiting from homeopathic treatment. “In Pakistan, due to conspiracies by pharmaceutical mafia, homeopathic doctors are facing increasing difficulties,” they alleged.

They said that government must take action against those involved in the amendment process. They also appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari to provide more facilities for homeopathic doctors and promote quality homeopathic education in the country.

They demanded establishment of homeopathic medical wards in all government hospitals and creation of a teaching cadre for them in teaching colleges. They also called for establishment of separate teaching hospitals and universities for homeopathy in every province.
