Thirty goats, sheep die of ‘toxic’ water intake

BAHAWALPUR: Thirty goats and sheep, valued at hundreds of thousands of rupees, died after consuming contaminated water from fields in the Raja Ram area near Lodhran on Monday.

According to reports, a farmer had sprayed pesticides on his maize fields and irrigated them. The grazing animals drank the water. Thirty animals died on the spot, while several others became seriously ill.

The owner immediately sought medical help from private vets.

RAPE CASES: A woman and a girl were allegedly raped in two incidents in Bahawalpur’s Yazman tehsil and Lodhran on Tuesday.

Police said in Yazman city’s ward no 2, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped twice by her neighbour ‘F’.

Her father ‘N’ got a case registered under section 376 of PPC when she conceived.

The complainant alleged that about a month back her daughter went to collect ice from neighbour’s house where the suspect raped her. Later, she complained that the suspect again subjected her to sexual assault at gunpoint. Police said after the registration of case, the suspect fled away.

The victim has been referred to THQ hospital Yazman for medical examination.

In the second incident, Gailiwal police in Lodhran district claimed to have arrested a suspect ‘S’ for allegedly raping his neighbour. Police have registered a case under sections 376 and 511 of PPC on the complaint of husband of the woman.

CARS: DPO Lodhran Kamran Mumtaz handed over two recovered cars, including a cab valued at Rs2.4 million and another worth Rs2m, to their respective owners, Imran Malik and Ashfaq, on Tuesday.

Reports said four robbers had deprived taxi driver Ashfaq of his cab, and all four gang members have since been arrested. Imran Malik’s car, valued at Rs2.4m, was stolen two years ago by Asim Hamid from outside his showroom in Dunyapur.

The accused sold the vehicle in Mandi Bahauddin, where police later recovered it and arrested Asim Hamid.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons, including a woman, were killed and three others seriously injured in two accidents in Mailsi and Bahawalpur on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a woman was killed and three other pillion riders sustained serious injuries when their motorcycle was struck by a speeding trailer near Tahirwali town on Uch Sharif Road, about 70 kilometers from Bahawalpur.

The trailer driver fled the scene and police have registered a case against the unidentified driver.

In Mailsi, a motorcyclist named Zahid was hit by a speeding bus and died on the spot.

The police arrested the bus driver.
