Punjab police barred from arresting Latif Khosa

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday restrained police from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Sardar Latif Khosa in a case registered in Islamabad related to the Oct 6 protest held by the party.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi allowed a petition of Advocate Khosa for protective bail and directed him to approach the court concerned for pre-arrest bail before Oct 26.

A lawyer appearing on behalf of the PTI leader argued that the Secretariat police of Islamabad registered the case on political consideration.

He said the police could arrest the petitioner in the ‘fabricated’ case.

Allowing the bail petition, the bench restrained the police from arresting the MNA till the next hearing.

Separately, an anti-terrorism court extended the pre-arrest bail of PTI Secretary General Advocate Salman Akram Raja in four cases registered with different police stations of Lahore related to the Oct 6 protest.

Mr Raja appeared before the court on expiry of his previous bail.

Judge Arshad Javed extended the bail of the PTI leader till Nov 2.

The judge also granted pre-arrest bail to PTI MPA Ali Imtiaz Warraich in the same cases till Nov 2.

The cases were registered by Lorry Adda, Masti Gate, Islampura and Shafiqabad police on charges of attacking police personnel and damaging public and private properties.
