Mill worker injured in firing by ‘extortionists’
TOBA TEK SINGH: A man was critically injured on Thursday allegedly when extortionists opened fire on a factory at Chak 77-GB, Satiana, Faisalabad, over refusal by its owner to pay them extortion money.
According to police sources, extortionists had been demanding money from the factory owner, Mian Amer, who refused to do so.
On Thursday, unidentified men opened indiscriminate fire at the factory, leaving an employee, Saifullah, critically injured.
The injured man was shifted to the Faisalabad District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Police are looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested the three suspects involved in an attack on the house of a lawyer, Rana Shahzaib, in Muslim Town locality on Sargodha Road, Faisalabad.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspects were arrested from Chak 56-RB in Balochni police limits.
He said the police used modern technology, including geo-fencing, to trace the suspects and recovered a Kalashnikov gun and other weapons from them.
As per police sources, elder brother of advocate Shahzaib was doing business in Dubai where he had a monetary dispute with his partner, who allegedly hired the attackers.
CALLIGRAPHY CORNER: Calligrapher of Masjid-i-Nabwi, Shafiq-ul-Zaman, inaugurated a calligraphy corner at the Lyallpur Museum at Faisalabad, named after late calligrapher Hafiz Anjum.
The 67-year-old calligrapher from Karachi has been working at the Masjid-i-Nabawi for the past 35 years.
Speaking at the inauguration of the calligraphy corner, he said that he was picked by a Saudi citizen after noticing his work and was hired for the job at the holy mosque after he won a contest participated by 400 calligraphers.
LIFE TERM: Gojra Additional District and Session Judge Abbas Rasool Warraich handed down on Thursday life imprisonment to a man in a murder case, besides ordering him to pay Rs800,000 as compensation to the heirs of the victim.
Convict Umar and his accomplices had shot dead one Qamar Saeed two years ago at Chak 178-GB, Ghogha, over enmity.
The court acquitted the convict’s accomplices Shazim and Ayub, giving them the benefit of doubt.
BODY RETRIEVED: Body of a young man who had drowned in Trimmu-Haveli link canal near Shorkot two days ago, was retrieved on Thursday by divers of Rescue 1122.
The deceased, Amer Abbas (24), a resident of Kot Bahadur, had drowned while swimming in the canal near Shorkot Cantonment.
ARRESTED: Gojra’s Nawan Lahore police claimed to have arrested the alleged killers of a milkman of Chiniot, who was shot dead near Nawan Lahore a month ago.
Police said the victim, Nawaz, of Chak 248-JB, Bhawana, was on his motorcycle when the suspects, Afzal and Munawar of Chak 203-JB, Chiniot, shot him dead.
The suspects told the police that the victim’s brother, Ijaz Akbar, had occupied their farmland, and they killed Nawaz in revenge.
