Girl attacked by dog at school

SAHIWAL: A girl student fainted after being bitten by a dog allegedly kept by security guards of a private school located in Pak Avenue Colony on Thursday.

According to Dr Zafar Iqbal, father of Mariam, a Class IX student at a private school, Seek Academy, when he went to pick his daughter from the school, he was informed by the administration that she was bitten by a stray dog.

However, he said that his daughter told him that the dog was tied near the school gate with a rope and when she went there during the break time, it attacked her.

He said Mariam was bitten by the dog on the thigh and fainted. The school administration called a doctor to dress her wound.

On being inquired, it transpired that the dog was kept by the school’s guards as a pet.

The girl’s father later got her vaccinated for rabies at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, and reported the matter to divisional commissioner, who ordered removal of the dog from school premises.

The commissioner also ordered the education CEO to probe the matter and submit a report for further action.
