KARACHI: A man was shot dead and his friend wounded by armed robbers in the Mehmoodabad area on Friday, police said.

Area people, who witnessed the incident, said that two robbers emerged at a restaurant, held two persons sitting there at gunpoint and demanded their cash and valuables.

Baloch Colony SHO Basharat Abbasi said that the suspects fired at Amir Shaukat, 36, and when his friend Muhammad Mumtaz, 38, put up resistance they also shot him.

He said that the suspects also took away their motorcycle parked in front of the restaurant.

Both the wounded were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared Shaukat dead on arrival.

The area SHO said that it was an apparent robbery-related incident, but investigators were also looking into other possibilities.

Meanwhile, a young man was gunned down within the remit of the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police station on Friday.

Area SHO Shahzad Ilyas said that Arifullah, 26, was targeted by two assailants as soon as he got off from a rickshaw near Maymar Mor.

He said the murder appeared to be an outcome of some personal enmity. The victim originally hailed from Bannu.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
