‘Desert winds’ raise day-time city temperature
KARACHI: The temperature rose to 39 degrees Celsius on Saturday following a brief respite from sizzling weather conditions.
According to a Met department advisory, city’s weather is likely to get hotter with day-time maximum temperature rising to 38-39°C — three to four degrees above the monthly average temperature — during the next four to five days.
“A low pressure developed over the Arabian Sea is blocking the sea breeze, causing an increase in temperature,” explained Chief Meteorologist Dr Sardar Sarfaraz.
Another contributing factor, he points out, is the sea breeze’s normal pattern during the month of October in which it blows towards the land during the evening/nighttime. “It’s the hot desert wind during the day-time that enhances the overall impact of the hot weather conditions,” he said.
Weather will remain hot and dry on Sunday (today) with the maximum temperature likely to remain between 37°C and 39°C.
