Nursing student hospitalised after incident at college

LAHORE: Nursing student Iman Fatima was rushed to the emergency ward of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Sunday after sustaining injuries at the office of the Fatima Jinnah Nursing College principal.

Her father, Shaukat Ali, has lodged a complaint with the police, seeking the registration of an FIR against college principal Khalida Sulehri. According to the complaint, Iman was attacked and injured by the principal when she visited her office to submit a leave application.

Shaukat said he was informed of his daughter’s deteriorating condition by her teacher and rushed her to the hospital, where she was treated for severe blood loss and underwent surgery.

Several nursing students claimed the principal has a history of using abusive language and creating a hostile environment for students who raise concerns about the college’s administration. They alleged that the students are subjected to mental torture due to the principal’s harsh behaviour and offensive remarks.

Dr Arif Iftikhar, medical superintendent of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said an initial inquiry revealed that Iman had visited the principal’s office to request official leave. Quoting the principal, he stated that when the leave application was rejected, Iman, in a state of distress, cut her veins in protest.

He added that Iman’s condition has since improved, and police arrived on the scene after being contacted by her family.
