Education CEOs appointed across 36 districts

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department (SED) on Sunday appointed 36 new chief executive officers (CEOs) for district education authorities (DEA) across the province.

The appointments were made following a thorough selection process conducted by a search committee, which interviewed candidates for the positions of CEOs, district education officers (DEOs), and deputy district education officers (DDEOs).

The newly-appointed CEOs will play a pivotal role in managing the district education system, with responsibilities that include acting as the principal accounting officer and chief operating officer of the DEAs. Their duties will encompass implementing the provincial government’s education policies, conducting and maintaining records of DEA meetings, overseeing district education offices, and ensuring efficient administration. They will also be accountable to the deputy commissioner (DC) of their respective districts for the proper conduct of business within the education sector.

The CEOs will have administrative control over officers within their jurisdiction, supervise the progress of education, and promote the cause of education by ensuring that standards meet the demands of the country and the needs of the times. Their responsibilities also extend to planning and developing various educational schemes, supervising privately managed schools, and ensuring the proper use and distribution of funds for the development of educational institutions, including infrastructure and student welfare.

A ceremony to present the appointment orders will be held at the Quaid-i-Azam Academy for Educational Development (QAED) in Lahore on Monday (today) where SED Secretary Khalid Nazir will hand over the orders to the newly-appointed CEOs.

The list of the CEOs includes Faqir Muhammad (Chiniot), Nazir Hussain Cheena (Lahore), Malak Abdul Qayyom (Nankana), Safdar Hussain (Multan), Saleem Shah (Jhelum), Ahmad Yar (Mianwali), Munir Ahmad (Okara), Gulzar Ahmad (Sahiwal), Kamran Aziz (Gujrat), Ghulam Mustafa Kanwal (Kasur), Zia Abbasi (Mandi Bahauddin), Tawakal Hussain (Rahim Yar Khan), Dr. Mah Jabeen (Lodhran), Nasreen Gul (Khanewal), Amanullah (Rawalpindi), Muhammad Amir (DG Khan), Ghulam Shabbir Sabri (Bhakkar), Zafar Iqbal Wattu (Vehari), Fiaz Hussain Sandhu (Bahawalpur), Waqar Ahmad (Faisalabad), Dr. Muhammad Ishaq (Bahawalnagar), Tanvir Ghazali (Jhang), Rana Naeem Abbas (Sheikhupura), Nazia Shehzadi (Hafizabad), Akhlaq Ahmad (Attock), Israrul Haq (Muzaffargarh), Attequr Rehman (Pakpattan), Kalsoom Mansha (Sargodha), Muhammad Arif as DEO EEM (Lahore), and Jameel Rizvi as DEO SE (Lodhran).

These appointments are part of the provincial government’s efforts to enhance the quality of education across Punjab by ensuring that capable and experienced individuals are at the helm of district-level education authorities.
