Chained, tortured shopkeeper rescued from ‘debtors custody’

KASUR: The Sadar police rescued a shopkeeper who was allegedly chained and tortured by debtors in Qadiwind village on Sunday.

Police said they arrested one of the suspects and registered a case against three suspects. According to reports, Sagheer, one of the suspects, had taken items on credit from the shop of Ali Zohaib. On Sunday, when Zohaib asked for his money, Sagheer became agitated, and he with Latif and Hanif, allegedly kidnapped Zohaib at gunpoint and took him to a deserted area near Chowk Kamal Chishti. There, they chained him to a tree and tortured him. The police rescued the shopkeeper and started investigation into the incident.

ACCIDENT: Three people, including a child, died while two women were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two speeding motorcycles on Chor Kot Road, in the Khudian police jurisdiction, on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, the accident involved a motorcycle carrying farmer Muhammad Hussain, his wife Saima Bibi, and their five-year-old son Muhammad Azhar, which collided with another motorcycle driven by Amanat Ali, who was accompanied by Salma Bibi.

Muhammad Hussain, Amanat Ali and young boy Azhar died on the spot, while Saima Bibi and Salma Bibi suffered critical injuries. They were rushed to DHQ hospital for treatment. The bodies were also shifted to the DHQ Hospital for an autopsy. The police launched an investigation.

ARRESTED: The police arrested a robber in an injured condition after an exchange of gunfire at village Chah Bulanda in the B-Division police jurisdiction on Sunday. His accomplice fled. The police said that the arrested suspect, identified as Kashif alias Kashi, was wanted in over two dozen cases of robbery and house dacoities. The incident occurred after a 15 emergency call reported that two unidentified robbers had snatched cash and valuables from a biker, Nabeel, near Stadium Road.

As police chased the robbers, the suspects hid in nearby fields and opened fire on the officers. The police retaliated, and during the brief shootout, Kashif was injured. Police claimed that he was wounded by gunfire from his own accomplice.

Kashif was taken into custody while his accomplice fled the scene. Police have registered a case against the escaped suspect and are continuing their investigation.
