SCCI demands withdrawal of 2pc cess on exports

PESHAWAR: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday termed the imposition of a two per cent cess on exports from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as an unjust step of the provincial government and asked for its withdrawal.

In a statement issued here, SCCI Senior Vice-President Jalil Jan said exports had been shifted to other provinces after the imposition of cess. He expressed the fear that trade and exports would vanish if the cess wasn’t withdrawn immediately, adding it would trigger massive unemployment in the province.

Mr Jan said that business and industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had already come to a standstill due to the imposition of heavy taxes. He said the collection of two per cent cess on exports by the provincial government would hurt the businesses and industry in the province.

Mr Jan said that the SCCI cabinet would soon meet the chief minister and the governor to take up the issue with them.

Jalil Jan said the SCCI delegation would present suggestions and recommendations for solutions to the traders’ problems.
