Suparco employee shot dead

KARACHI: A young employee of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) was shot dead on the outskirts of the city off Superhighway on Sunday, police said.

SITE Superhighway Industrial Area SHO Shahzad Ilyas said that Sadiq Abu Bakar, 26, along with his family, left his home in Meerut Society in Scheme 33 in their car.

He said that when they reached near Khadim Solangi Goth some armed motorcyclists signalled them to stop. Sensing danger, Sadiq’s brother, who was driving the car, tried to speed away and the suspects started firing.

The SHO said that Sadiq suffered a single bullet wound in the back and died on the spot.

He said that the police were probing the incident from different angles. Although the killers did not take away any valuables, the incident might be related to street crime, he added.

He said the victim’s brother told investigators he saw a suspect loading a gun in his rear-view mirror before signalling them to stop.
