THATTA: Cooperative loans recovery drive begins

THATTA, Feb 4: The Cooperative Societies department, Thatta, has launched a campaign to recover Rs45 million dues from 22 defaulter cooperative societies in the district.

The amount was entrusted to 850 members of several cooperative societies since 1978 to promote agriculture sector through joint efforts.

In this connection, considerable pieces of state land were also granted under different schemes, it was learnt reliably.

Though the loans was given to individual members of these societies, under the rules the directors were made responsible for the recovery of loans, which resulted in alleged irregularities at initial stage.

Syed Amir Aslam Shah, assistant registrar, cooperative societies, Thatta, said that as per new package, the defaulter cooperatives would get an exemption of 60 per cent in interest by repaying principal amount and 40 per cent of interest.
