KP Bar hails Justice Afridi’s appointment as CJP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Wednesday hailed the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan, stating that he was a non-controversial, impartial and non-political person.

In a joint press release issued here, the KP Bar Council’s vice-chairman Sadiq Ali Momand, chairman of its executive committee Syed Taimoor Ali Shah and other members hoped that as CJP, Justice Afridi would strive for supremacy of the parliament, rule of law, implementation of the Constitution and provision of speedy and cheap justice to people.

They expressed the resolve that the lawyers of KP would stand by the judiciary for the survival of democracy, rule of law and provision of justice to people.

They also paid tributes to the parliamentary committee for making its first decision of the appointment of the chief justice under the Constitution (Twenty-sixth Amendment) Act.

They believed that the decision would prove fruitful for the country as it would help in maintaining balance of power among the provinces as the president of Pakistan belonged to Sindh, the prime minister to Punjab and the chief justice to KP, which is a backward province.

The KP Bar members also demanded increase in the number of judges in the Supreme Court so as to ensure provision of expeditious justice to people.
