ATC awards death to accused for martyring cop

MARDAN: An anti-terrorism court here on Thursday awarded death sentence on two counts and 20-years rigorous imprisonment to an accused in different cases of attack on police and militant activities.

As per the judgment, ATC judge Syed Aqeel Ajiz ordered that the accused named Wahid Shah of Katlang tehsil of Mardan was found guilty of various offences.

He was charged in the case with FIR No 582 of April 16, 2011, lodged under sections 302/324/353 PPC and 7 ATA lodged at the City police station.

The accused had snatched a rifle from a policeman who was taking tea along with another colleague at a hotel located in New Adda on the night on April 16, 2011.

After snatching the rifle, the accused opened firing on the policemen killing one of them on the spot.

The accused was also convicted and sentenced to death under section 7 (a) of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. He was further sentenced to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment under section 324 PPC.

Similarly, the accused was also sentenced to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment under section 7 (b) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

The court ordered that the accused had to undergo two-year imprisonment under section 353 PPC and five-year jail under section 7 (h) of the Anti-terrorism Act 1997.
