RAWALPINDI: Police investigating the blind murder of a man whose beheaded body was found stuffed in a trunk in Naseerabad on Wednesday arrested the brother-in-law of the deceased, and recovered the man’s head from a nullah as well as the murder weapon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Javaid Iqbal told Dawn that soon after the beheaded body was found, police launched an investigation.

He said the victim was identified from the report of the forensic experts.

Besides, he said it also emerged during the investigation that a tractor-trolley was also seen in the area on Wednesday at 3am – apparently used for disposing of the trunk and the head of the victim in a nullah.

According to the police, the deceased, Nasir Abbas’ wife and four daughters had gone to their native town in Okara and he had stayed behindalong with his brother-in-law (wife’s brother) Nadeem Qasim.

They said the deceased was sleeping in his room when the alleged killer first struck him with an axe and then sliced off his head. The alleged killer then stuffed his brother-in-law’s beheaded body in a trunk, disposed it of along a road and threw his head in a nullah to hide his identity.

DSP Javaid Iqbal said the motive behind the murder was money which the alleged killer wanted to get after selling the tractor-trolley of his brother-in-law.

The suspect was detained by the police when he went to collect the money from the buyer of the trolley.

After killing the husband of his sister, the alleged killer went to Okara but did not disclose what he had done, the DSP said adding that the suspect confessed to having committed the crime when he was detained and investigated by the police.

The deceased used to earn his livelihood from the trolley while the alleged killer was attached with him as a helper.

The police spokesman said shortly after the incident was reported to the police, the city police officer (CPO) constituted a team, led by DSP Cantt Javaid Iqbal, to identify the victim and arrest the killer.

All legal requirements will be fulfilled to punish the suspect, the spokesman said.
