Six injured in separate robbery attempts

ISLAMABAD: Five security guards and a passerby were injured in separate incidents of cross-firing with armed persons who attempted to loot the cash vans of banks on Monday.

Police said same robbers were involved in three attempts to rob the cash vans at I-9, G-15 and Chungi No 26.

In the morning, motorcycle riders appeared at I-9/3 and opened fire on the security guards of a cash van when it reached there to deliver cash at a bank about half a kilometre from a police station.

In response, the security guards of the vans retaliated and during the cross-firing one of the guards identified as Mohammad Rafiq sustained a bulletinjury.

The guards foiled the robbery attempt and forced the robber to escape.

Later, gunmen intercepted another cash van when it arrived at G-15 to deliver cash and opened fire.

The security guards of the van and bank retaliated and during the cross-firing they pushed the robbers back and the driver of the cash van sped away the vehicle.

However, the robbers chased the van and intercepted it at Chungi No 26 where anotherround of cross-firing took place.

This time, the guards also foiled the robbery attempt and forced the robbers to escape.

During these incidents, two cash van security guards — Noman and Mohammad Nawaz — bank security guard Mudassar and a passerby Rizwan sustained bullet injuries while the van driver Mohammad Afghan sustained injured from the broken glass panes of the vehicle.
