Woman, two sons jailed for 14 years in acid attack case

KARACHI: A sessions court on Wednesday sentenced a woman and her two sons to 14-year imprisonment in an acid attack case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (West) Aurangzeb Shah found Azra Abbas Masih and her two sons — Jibran and Farhan — guilty of throwing acid at their neighbour, Chanda, after a quarrel that took place in 2019.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the convicts and in case of default, they would have to serve an additional six-month imprisonment.

Complainant Shamshad informed the police that he had asked his daughter-in-law, Chanda, to discuss the issue with their neighbours of an electric wire hanging over their home. When she went to speak with the neighbour, a heated argument broke out between them. During this, the accused allegedly threw acid on the victim from within their house, he said, adding that as a result, the victim suffered burns.

A case was registered at the Surjani Town police station under Sections 336-B (punishment for hurt by corrosive substance) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
