Woman from Taxila dies of dengue fever

TAXILA: Health authorities and the local administration remained on their toes after a patient died of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Taxila on Thursday.

Nadia Noreen, 32, a native of Mohra Shah Wali Shah of Union council 54 of the city, is the first woman to die of dengue in Taxila.

Deputy District Officer Dr Shahzad Rasool confirmed to Dawn that it was the first death caused by dengue, and that the authorities had decided to monitor dengue patients after a surge in positive cases in the area.

On the other hand, dengue patients continued to increase in Taxila and Wah at an alarming rate with 36 more people diagnosed with the virus raising the number of positive cases to 114 this season, local health department data showed.

Moreover, the official data reveals that dengue mosquito attacks continue to escalate in ward 7 of Wah Cantonment, which was emerging as a hotspot with positive cases rising to 38, followed by 24 in ward 6.

In union council Wah, the number of positive cases recorded was eight, six each in union council Sarai Kala, Thatta Khalil and Jallala while four cases each in ward 2 and 9 of Wah.
