Robbers kill man during broad daylight robbery

NAROWAL: Robbers shot at and killed a man during a daylight robbery near a canal in Zafarwal on Saturday.

Azmat Shahzad, t of Mohalla Rasulpura, Shakargarh, reported to the police that he and his father, Muhammad Akram, were riding a motorcycle when two robbers on a motorcycle intercepted them on Chirag Shah Rang Road. They demanded cash at gunpoint.

When his father resisted, the robbers opened fire and injured Akram. The robbers then took Rs350,000 and fled.

Rescue 1122 provided first aid to the injured man and later shifted him to Zafarwal Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The robbers also targeted Ching Chi driver Mohammad Adeel and passengers Mohammad Faryad and Mohammad Naseer, robbing them at gunpoint. Adeel reported that the masked robbers stole Rs250,000 from them.

The Zafarwal police registered an FIR against the robbers on Azmat’s complaint, under sections 302/392 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Local salesman Mohammad Asif told Dawn that two days ago on Chirag Shah Rang Road, robbers on motorcycles looted him at 2pm taking Rs150,000.

ARRESTED: The Sialkot police arrested a suspect involved in the theft of Rs36.2 million and recoveredg Pakistani and foreign currency along with other valuables.

The police said that Kamran Sajjad, of Model Town, had lodged a complaint on Oct 22 that while he and his wife were dropping their children off at school, his house had been left locked. Upon returning, they found the doors open and discovered that Rs16 million, $12,000, 600 euros, 5,500 rials, and 2,450 Philippine pesos were missing. Kamran said that he had recently sold a house worth Rs16 million, and the proceeds had been kept in the safe.

Following his complaint, Agoki police registered an FIR against unidentified suspects.

An investigation team eventually identified and caught Muhammad Umair, of Mohalla Waterworks, Sialkot.

During questioning, Umair said that he had been friends with Kamran for 15 years and had secretly made duplicate keys to Kamran’s house.

In recognition of their efforts in solving the case and recovering the stolen assets, DPO Rana Umar Farooq announced appreciation certificates and cash rewards for the investigation team.
