Livestock breeding lab planned
KARACHI: The Sindh government has planned to establish a laboratory at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karach, to advance livestock breeding and boost agricultural productivity.
Supported by a World Bank-assisted project, the Rs2 million initiative will focus on livestock genomics to improve livestock breeds through genomic selection.
This decision was made in a meeting held at the Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research.
In the meeting, CM’s Adviser Najmi ALam emphasised the importance of breed improvement to enhance food security and livestock efficiency.
He also encouraged further ICCBS collaboration in critical areas such as quality assurance for drugs and vaccines, and monitoring of circulating pathogens.
