Jirga imposes Rs16.6m fine on warring sides to end blood feud

SUKKUR: A jirga on Tuesday imposed Rs16.6 million on two rival groups of Jagirani clan as blood money for the murder of six men and compensation for injuries to as many people during a clash between the groups in Darri village within the jurisdiction of Ghouspur police station, Kashmore district, two weeks ago.

The jirga presided over by Mir Abid Khan Sundrani and Murad Jagirani heard both the sides and pronounced verdict, fixing Rs2 million each as blood money for the six murders. Hence, it imposed Rs12.5 million on Haleem Jagirani’s group for allegedly killing Sanaullah, Dahair, Dil Sher and Abdullah Jagirani and wounding three others of the rival group.

Rs4.1 million were slapped on Shehmir Jagirani’s group for killing Momin and Karim Jagirani of Haleem Jagirani’s group, said the verdict.

A large number of clansmen from both the sides and their supporters attended the jirga and welcomed its verdict that settled the blood feud.

Two weeks ago, armed men of the rival groups had clashed over theft of cattle heads. Six men were killed and three were wounded critically in the clash.

Body of slain transgender woman found Jacobabad police found body of a slain transgender woman at a deserted place in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station late on Tuesday evening.

Police officials said that they shifted the dead body to civil hospital for post mortem examination after receiving information about it.

They said the dead body was identified as that of Fida Hussain Shaikh, who was a resident of New Dero. They had launched investigation into the incident to unearth the circumstances which might have led to the murder, they said.
