Policemen in Thar get health insurance cover

MITHI: In a significant move, health insurance coverage has been extended to the families of all Sindh police personnel in Tharparkar.

Tharparkar SP Dr Sameer Noor Channa visited the hospital recently taken on police penal, Al-Khidmat Hospital Mithi, to oversee the implementation of the facility. The insurance provides hospitalisation limit of up to Rs1m per family, a daily room limit of Rs10,000, and a pool of up to Rs10m for major medical expenses.

The fund limit has been increased to 100 per cent in case of accidents and emergency treatment, including day-care surgery. The insurance covers all diseases, including gynaecological issues, and various major operations. Spouses, children and parents are included in the scheme for the policemen. Every employee of Sindh police will receive a health insurance card to avail the facility.

Dr Channa stated that the purpose of his visit to Al-Khidmat hospital was to review all facilities, announcing that the hospital had been added to the panel of the police department.

This development is particularly important for Tharparkar desert district which has been facing challenges related to healthcare and poverty. The district has one of the lowest Human Development Index ratings in Sindh.
