PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur said here on Wednesday said southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced law and order challenges.

Addressing the participants of national security workshop in the provincial capital, he said that maintain law and order was the top priority of provincial government.

According a statement issued by the chief minister’s secretariat, he said that police department was being provided with the required facilities on priority.

Mr Gandapur said that residents of the province, specifically the people of merged districts, were on the frontline in the war against militancy. He said tribesmen had offered countless sacrifices besides facing different issues.

He said that provincial government was rehabilitating the destroyed infrastructure and repatriating displaced persons in merged districts.

He said that the promises, made with people of merged districts, were never fulfilled.

The chief minister said that despite financial issues, provincial government was working under a coordinated strategy to make the province self-sufficient financially. He added that 44 per cent increase was recorded in the province’s revenue during the last eight months.

He said that work was under way on projects to generate 800 megawatts of electricity in the province that would be completed by 2028. He said that a transmission line was being laid down for providing power to local industry at lower rates.

The chief minister said that the province’s forest area had increased from 18 per cent to 26 per cent, which would have a positive impact on environment. He reiterated his statement issued earlier about buying Pakistan International Airlines.
