Two soldiers injured in South Waziristan attacks
SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A sniper attack and an IED blast injured two security personnel in separate incidents in Upper South Waziristan district’s Mamikhel area here on Monday.
A sniper attacked an FC checkpost, resulting in injuries to a soldier. Shortly afterwards, an IED explosion targeted a vehicle of the security forces, injuring another soldier.
Official sources said unknown individuals had planted explosives on the roadside, which went off when a security forces’ vehicle passed by.
They said the injured soldiers were taken to the Scouts Hospital, Wana, where they were reportedly out of danger.
Later, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation.
However, Inter-Services Public Relations, the army’s media wing, didn’t issue a statement regarding the incidents.
Meanwhile, a jirga on Monday brokered an agreement between two clans of Wazir tribe over a longstanding land dispute in the Lower South Waziristan district.
Officials said the district administration constituted the jirga.
The jirga made the Sadeykhel and Shamalkhel tribes to cease fire after a seven-day-long standoff between them.
